UP police get clean chit in Vikas Dubey Case

The Justice (Retd) BS Chauhan inquiry commission has given a clean chit to UP Police in the encounter killing case of gangster Vikas Dubey and his aides, said sources.
The clean chit to UP Police in the Vikas Dubey encounter case comes as a huge relief for the police force that was accused of gunning down the gangster as revenge for his killing eight policemen.
After investigating the case for 8 months, the Justice Chauhan inquiry commission has concluded that no evidence was found against the UP Police, said sources.
According to sources, no eyewitness accounts were found in the case which could have negated the UP Police's version of events that led to Vikas Dubey's encounter in July last year

What led to Vikas Dubey's encounter?

Early in July 2020, 8 policemen were gunned down in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur in a fierce gunbattle after a police team was ambushed by Vikas Dubey's associates.
The Kanpur police team had gone to raid history-sheeter Vikas Dubey who had around 60 criminal cases in his name. As the group of police personnel raided the Bikaru village in search of Vikas Dubey, the team was ambushed.
A week later, Vikas Dubey was arrested in Madhya Pradesh and was being brought back to UP by the police when the car they were travelling in overturned on the highway.
An encounter broke out on the road as Vikas Dubey tried to escape and police gunned him down.
Soon after, the Opposition launched an attack on the UP government over Vikas Dubey's encounter killing. Congress raised several questions over the whole episode and asked how could only one car in the convoy overturn
